Counselling

ɬÀï·¬students can access a free and confidential counselling service.

What we provide:

Our counsellors aim to help you with any problem you have while you are at CIT. This may be to manage stress, enhance your study skills, reduce exam anxiety, set goals and deal with any personal problems that may be affecting your study.

Counselling is provided on an appointment basis. If you are in immediate distress, our counsellors will try to assist if they can, but this is not a crisis service and immediate support is not always available. In this situation you will be offered support from a telephone crisis counselling service, such as Lifeline on 131 114 or the Access Mental Health Team on 1800 629 354, and also offered an appointment with a ɬÀï·¬Counsellor according to availability.

  • What are the counsellors' qualifications?

ɬÀï·¬counsellors are either Registered Psychologists and work within the Code of Conduct of the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (Psychology Board of Australia) or Social Workers who work under the Australian Association of Social Workers' regulations. A copy of either regulation is available on request.

  • Is it confidential?

Counselling sessions and client files are confidential. No information about you, including the fact you have visited a counsellor, will be released to anyone outside the counselling office without your permission. However, ethically and legally there are circumstances where counsellors may be required to disclose information about their clients, if this is needed to protect their client or another person from immediate risk of harm, or due to subpoenas from a court or other legal entity to provide client information.
