ɬÀï·¬students given behind-the-scenes access to Geocon’s Metropol site
Published: 22 Sep 2020
31 Canberra Institute of Technology (CIT) students recently toured one of Australia’s biggest residential construction sites, as they visited Geocon’s Metropol site in Canberra City.
ɬÀï·¬Building and Construction Management Head of Department Tony Cowlishaw said it's an integral part of the Diploma of Building and Construction (Building) (CPC50210) to see their theoretical knowledge in practice on a real building site.
"The students gain experience seeing first-hand processes, new practices, site management, site induction, real-life problems and solutions," Tony said.
"ɬÀï·¬is always working with industry to create job-ready, real-life experience to maximise student learning."
Following the visit, the students researched how what they saw complies with Building Code (BCA) standards, work practices and procedures as part of an assignment based around four of their study modules.
The course has a range of students, with some already working in both the residential and commercial industry, international students, trainees and apprentices.
Geocon Operations Manager, Damian Rumball said, "It's great to be able to support the next generation of construction workers as they enter the workforce on one of Australia's biggest and most complicated sites."
"Geocon's ongoing partnership with ɬÀï·¬clearly illustrates our commitment to promoting Canberra and Canberrans."
