Two ɬÀï·¬Commercial Cookery students competed recently in the Nestle Golden Chef's Hat culinary competition, with Noah Cairnduff winning a Silver Medal and Riley Angelosante a Bronze in the regional round.
The competition supports apprentices and junior chefs and is a chance to showcase their skills in a live cook-off.
Noah Cairnduff, who works as an apprentice chef in Canberra, while studying a Certificate III in Commercial Cookery (SIT30816) at CIT, participated in the competition as he wanted to see how he compared with other apprentices.
"My preparation for the competition has meant I have spent a lot of time talking to my Head Chef, testing my recipes and practicing."
The competition required the students to produce two portions of a main course and dessert which were judged on overall presentation and taste. Also considered were personal presentation, workstation set up, hygiene practices, technical skills, preparation and food wastage.
Riley said the competition has helped hone his professional skills.
"I have learnt a lot about time management and working under pressure," said Riley.
