Canberra Theatre Centre and ɬÀï·¬kick-off live production training

Published: 19 Aug 2019

The Canberra Theatre Centre and the Canberra Institute of Technology (CIT) launched the call out for enrolments in the Certificate III in Live Production and Services (CUA30415). The partnership will deliver a qualification to equip students with the skills to manage the technical aspects of live entertainment productions and further elevate Canberra's contribution to the arts both locally and at a national scale.

Adam Salter is a recent graduate of the program. As a Live Production and Services Teacher at Gungahlin College, Adam understands the diverse and complex work that goes into theatre productions and live performances. He enrolled in the course to enhance his knowledge. "It's been a fantastic way to learn more about the industry and share real life examples with my students," Adam said.

The training encompasses lighting, audio and production skills. It combines face-to-face sessions and the immersion of students in the delivery of live Canberra Theatre Centre shows where they get invaluable experience working with professional artists and technicians.

The course is designed to provide a high-quality and affordable pathway into theatre technical training. "Having the opportunity to undertake the training locally is excellent. It rules out the need to travel out of town to study, which can be costly," Adam said.

The certificate prepares students to manage the operations of performing arts and cultural venues around Canberra and the region. "Through high-quality vocational education in theatre technical training, we contribute to Canberra's growing creative industries and build capacity so that local artists and productions have the support they need from a technical perspective," said Piers Douglas, Head of Department, ɬÀï·¬Graphics, Entertainment, Media and Music.

With the completion of his certification, Adam is keen to pass on his improved skills and understanding to his students and encourage others to take the next step in their theatre production journey.
