The Mid-Autumn Festival, commonly known in China and across East and South-East Asia as the Mooncake or Moon Festival - celebrates the time of the mid-autumn harvest in China.

Five lucky Canberra Institute of Technology culinary students will be given the opportunity to show their gastronomic prowess to the public at the upcoming Canberra Moon Festival this weekend.

The students will take part in a cooking show held on Sunday 11 September, having first impressed judges with a range of great dishes in a competition held at the ɬÀï·¬Restaurant at Reid.

The dishes chosen had to have a special meaning to students, with many choosing something from their childhood. These dishes included a bulgogi hotdog, Hong Kong street fish ball curry with radish, chicken adobo, Thai green papaya salad and sambusa with orange juice.

The five top students from ɬÀï·¬will present their dishes to a live audience at the event this weekend.

Head of Department for ɬÀï·¬Hospitality, Culinary and Tourism, Nicole Dixon, said this event is a great opportunity for students to further develop their skills, while also showing what they have already learnt at CIT.

"Having the chance to share their skills and cook a dish that is close to their hearts is a great way for students to take a step forward in their own career," Nicole said.

Nicole wishes the students all the best for the upcoming .
