ɬÀï·¬students are learning practical business skills to prioritise environmental and social sustainability as part their business and leadership studies.

Job opportunities in sustainability are growing as businesses place greater emphasis on reducing their impact on the environment, reducing global greenhouse emissions and addressing the challenges of climate change. Students discover how to design and build sustainable and ethical approaches into business policy and practice, putting both environmental and social issues high on the agenda.

The Develop Policies and Procedures for Sustainability course unit is an elective of the ɬÀï·¬Diploma of Business or Diploma of Leadership and Management (BSBSUS511).

Teacher Paul Cristofani commented that it is becoming common practice that businesses prioritised the environment and social justice issues. "Businesses who ignore these issues do so at their peril as the protection of the natural environment, preservation of the world's resources and ethical human rights are now mainstream concerns."

One student Erin said the business studies course has improved her overall skills in writing whilst learning more about how to plan and manage risk, business operation plans and learning to think critically about complex issues. "This course has also really helped me with developing my knowledge of business and leadership which is really useful for most jobs."

Brendan, who comes from a landscape design background enjoyed learning about different styles of leadership and communication and what inspires people. "One of the best parts of the course is the dynamic mix and diversity of the teaching staff. The teachers are the driving force in this course as they share their knowledge and real-life experience about what’s going on in business from a sustainable perspective."

Returning to face to face teaching, students have embraced the opportunity to share insights about environmental issues and business via case studies and the current cohort have diverse professional knowledge with backgrounds in psychology, community development, graphic design, landscaping, the fitness industry and administration.
