ɬÀï·¬welcomes with great enthusiasm the ACT Government's announcement of its decision to build a new Canberra Institute of Technology (CIT) campus in the Woden Town Centre.

ɬÀï·¬CEO Leanne Cover said, "The prospect of a new, state-of-the-art ɬÀï·¬campus is incredibly appropriate for the advancement of Vocational Education and Training (VET) in Canberra and the region."

ɬÀï·¬is the premiere VET provider in the ACT with a proud history of over 90 years. "The ACT Government's decision recognises the essential role ɬÀï·¬plays as a major contributor to the economy and providing the skills for an adaptive, modern workforce," Ms Cover said. "In our fast-moving world of work we need flexible and applied ways of learning."

"The nature of work is changing. For Canberrans to compete and thrive in today's workforce they will increasingly need contemporary vocational education and training skills. Today's announcement of a new ɬÀï·¬campus at Woden will ensure more Canberrans can get access to the right skills at the right time through Canberra's premier VET institution - CIT," Ms Cover said.

This investment in new facilities supports CIT's growing student numbers, very high student and employer satisfaction rates with ɬÀï·¬and increased employment outcomes for ɬÀï·¬graduates. "With student satisfaction rates above 90% and 82% of ɬÀï·¬graduates employed after training, we are confident we are producing work ready graduates that employers and industry need," Ms Cover said.

In 2016, acknowledging that CIT, like all education and training institutions faced a time of change, opportunity and uncertainty the ɬÀï·¬Board devised a roadmap, the Strategic Compass 2020 - Evolving Together, outlining new directions. The strategic directions ensure CIT's ongoing relevance and sustainability as the premier provider of VET in the ACT - the knowledge capital of the nation.

"As part of adopting an organisation-wide transformation, a key strategic direction, is the commitment to invest in our campuses to support better learning outcomes for students. Campus modernisation is a key priority to CIT's strategic evolution. Therefore, the ACT Government's decision to build a new campus in the Woden Town Centre with a continued ɬÀï·¬presence in the CBD aligns with CIT's strategic directions, and it is a very exciting news," Ms Cover said.

A new ɬÀï·¬campus in Woden and a continued presence in the city will strengthen CIT's existing centres of excellence in Fyshwick, Bruce, Gungahlin and Tuggeranong. A campus in Woden will open up a range of new collaboration opportunities for ɬÀï·¬students, with local businesses, industry and the broader community.

ɬÀï·¬Woden is anticipated to be the VET technology and service skills learning precinct, delivering courses to prepare students for roles in industries such as business, Cyber security, IT, the creative industries, hospitality and tourism.

"The ACT Government's announcement is a significant milestone in the history of ɬÀï·¬and will enable the Institute to continue to be the region's most trusted and dedicated VET provider," Ms Cover said.
