Overview

Workers with this qualification have tradesperson-level skills in the manufacture and/or installation of products, including furniture and cabinetry, made from timber and other materials.

They have core skills in tool use, measuring, drawing (including computer-aided design), interpreting work documentation, preparing cutting lists, communication, teamwork, and safe and environmentally sustainable work practices. They may have specialised skills in wood machining, cabinet and furniture making, kitchen and bathroom construction and installation, marine cabinetry, coopering or drafting. Work is in a defined range of skilled operations, usually within a range of broader activities involving established routines, methods and procedures, where some discretion and judgement is required in the selection of equipment, services or contingency measures. Individuals collaborate with others to achieve quality outcomes and take responsibility for their own work. They may have some limited responsibility for the work of others.

Kitchen and bathroom installers must be licensed in some states, and induction training is required for those working on construction sites.

Additional Information

You will need to provide clothing and appropriate safety footwear suitable for working on a construction site and personal protective equipment (PPE) such as safety glasses, dust masks and hearing protection.

In each year of study at ɬÀï·¬you will be required to work on practical projects and purchase them on completion at the cost of materials

Entry Requirements

You must:
- be able to read and write documents and understand math’s concepts to a level required to complete Year 10 (early in the course your skills will be checked. If you cannot read and write documents and complete math's work to the level needed, you will be enrolled in additional subjects to help you build the skills needed to successfully complete the course.)

If you are entering this course as an Apprentice under the Australian Apprenticeships arrangements, you must be employed in the industry and you must register with an Apprentice Network Provider (ANP) prior to enrolment.

Literacy Skills Information

We suggest that you will need Australian Core Skills Framework literacy levels of at least 3 across reading, writing, learning, oral communication and, depending on your course of study, numeracy skills to successfully complete this course.
