Higher Education - Admission and Enrolment Policy

1. Purpose

The purpose of this policy is to:

  • Provide guidance on admission and enrolment into ɬÀï·¬Higher Education (HE) programs and to
  • Determine eligibility for this admission and enrolment

2. Scope

All prospective students seeking to apply and enrol into HE programs at CIT.

3. Principles

3.1 ɬÀï·¬will provide learners with accurate and comprehensive information to allow for informed decisions about their training and assessment prior to admission to CIT.

Prospective Students

3.2 Enrolment at ɬÀï·¬is available for:

  1. domestic students who are Australian or New Zealand citizens,
  2. permanent Australian residents
  3. holders of an Australian permanent resident humanitarian visa and
  4. international students on an eligible visa.

3.3 Admission to a ɬÀï·¬Higher Education course is a two-step process:

  1. Initial application to study your chosen course
  2. Once accepted into a course of study, enrolment into subjects can be done online through ɬÀï·¬Self Service or physically through ɬÀï·¬Student Services. The enrolment process may require attendance at an information/enrolment session.

Detailed information about the process is available on the ɬÀï·¬website.

3.3 Eligibility requirements (detailed in the web handbook on the ɬÀï·¬website) must be met before enrolment into a program.

3.4 Acceptable identification documents (as detailed in the associated procedures) must be shown prior to enrolment.  Students wishing to access FEE-HELP are required to provide proof of Citizenship on enrolment.

3.5 A person may enrol through a proxy who:

  1. Holds a letter of authority signed by the individual seeking admission
  2. Holds all the necessary documents showing that the individual meets the entry requirements and
  3. Can provide proof of identity.

3.6 Enrolment at ɬÀï·¬is not valid until all administrative and financial processes are completed within the allocated timeframes as required by the ɬÀï·¬Fees Policy.

3.7 Restrictive holds may stop a student from enrolling, continuing study or graduating. These may include:

  1. overdue fees
  2. overdue library books
  3. proof of identity not provided
  4. a requirement to contact the College Director and/or Student Support Staff before continuing study.

3.8 Students who wish to re-enrol in a subject they have already successfully completed, must apply to do this through the Head of Department.

3.9 ɬÀï·¬may determine the enrolment application of asylum seekers on temporary visas on a case-by-case basis. A number of persons including asylum seekers on Bridging Visas may access ɬÀï·¬programs as domestic students, however they will not be eligible for programs funded directly from the Commonwealth Government. (See procedures for details of current eligible visa types and what access and exemptions apply).

Withdrawal and Enrolment Changes

3.10 Changes to enrolment must be done before Census Date if penalties are to be avoided. The Census Date is a date twenty percent of the way through the course. Changes can be made using one of the following methods:

  1. Request the change in writing via the online Withdrawal Request Form OR
  2. Submit in person to ɬÀï·¬Student Services, a completed enrolment form indicating the required change to the enrolment, accompanied by relevant identification documents OR
  3. Make online changes through ɬÀï·¬Self Service before the end of the third week of semester. [This does not apply to international students.]

3.11 International students:

  1. International students must contact the International Students Unit (ISU) before applying for any program.
  2. ISU will admit them to a program and then ɬÀï·¬Student Services will process the enrolment
  3. Enrolment may only be done using the paper-based enrolment form.

Who is a student?

3.12 A person becomes a student of ɬÀï·¬when they have completed enrolment into a ɬÀï·¬program.

3.13 A person ceases to be a student of ɬÀï·¬if they:

  1. have not enrolled into classes for 12 months or
