Higher Education - Grade Point Average (GPA) Policy

1. Purpose

To outline the principles of the Grade Point Average (GPA) and how they will be applied at CIT. This includes the scale used and the method of calculation.


2. Scope

This policy applies to all higher education courses at CIT.


3. Principles

3.1  A GPA is available to all higher education students who have completed one or more subjects towards their award. It is specific to one award only.

3.2  Courses that are graded on a pass/fail basis are not included in calculating the GPA. This includes CTs (Credit Transfers) and RGs (Recognition Granted).

3.3  A student's GPA is updated every semester.

3.4  All attempts at a unit will be counted towards a GPA.

3.5  GPA will be provided on request from Awards@cit.edu.au.

3.6  É¬Àï·¬does not provide a Weighted Average Mark (WAM).

All terminology used in this policy is consistent with definitions in the ɬÀï·¬Definitions of Terms.

GPA
(Grade Point Average)
An internationally recognised method of finding the average of all grades achieved throughout a student's course. All grades are given a numerical value which are then averaged to give a GPA score, so summarising academic performance through a numerical index on a scale.
