This course provides you with the skills and knowledge required to be able to perform a broad range of tasks on a variety of light vehicles in the automotive service and repair industry.
This qualification will provide you with the skills and knowledge to be competent in a range of Light Vehicle Mechanical roles.
You will gain and apply a broad set of skills and knowledge on a variety of light vehicles in the automotive mechanical service and repair sector. You will be able to repair and maintain cars and light vehicles or particular components of vehicles such as steering and suspension or cooling systems.
To achieve the Certificate III in Light Vehicle Technology you need to complete the 20 CORE units and 16 ELECTIVE units.

Additional Information
You will need to wear appropriate protective clothing and equipment when in the automotive workshops.
These include:
- Overalls
- Long pants - cotton drill/ jeans
- Leather safety boots
- Safety glasses
Electives will be chosen in consultation with local Light Vehicle industry representatives.
This qualification may also be achieved through other pathways which do not involve a contract of training, such as recognition of prior learning. In all cases achievement or recognition of competence is necessary in all of the required units of competency to be awarded a national qualification, please consult ɬÀï·¬staff for advice.
Entry Requirements
Early in the program your skills will be assessed - if you cannot read and write documents and complete maths work to the level needed you will be enrolled into additional subjects to help you build the skills needed to successfully complete the program.
If you are entering this course as an apprentice/trainee you must:
- be employed in the auto industry
- be an Apprentice or Trainee under the Australian Apprenticeship Scheme (AAS) and be registered with an Apprentice Network Provider (ANP) prior to enrolment.
If you already have skills in this area, you may seek skills recognition for all or part of this course.

Literacy Skills Information
We suggest that you will need Australian Core Skills Framework levels of at least 2 across reading, writing, learning, oral communication and, depending on your course of study, numeracy skills to successfully complete this course. If you do not have this level, you can still enrol and seek support to improve your skills or you may prefer to begin with a lower level course, or enrol in the Certificate II in Skills for Work and Vocational Pathways (FSK20119) to develop your literacy skills.
