Overview

This course will provide you with the skills and knowledge required to be able to perform a broad range of tasks on a variety of Electric Vehicles in the automotive service and repair industry.
You will gain and apply a broad set of skills and knowledge on a variety of electric vehicles in the automotive mechanical service and repair sector. You will be able to service, repair and maintain electric vehicles and particular components of electric vehicles such as high voltage batteries and systems, steering and suspension or cooling systems. These skills and knowledge can be applied to a range of Automotive Electric Vehicle roles.

Light Vehicle Specialisation

Light Vehicle Specialisation reflects the roles of individuals who service, diagnose and repair battery electric vehicles and components in the light vehicle automotive, service and repair industry who carry out work according to Australian Standards (AS) 5732 Electric vehicle operations - Maintenance and repair on light vehicles such as passenger vehicles. (Nissan Leaf, Tesla Model 3, and hybrid vehicles)
To achieve the Certificate III in Automotive Electric Vehicle Technology (Light Vehicle) or (Heavy Vehicle) you need to complete the 16 CORE units and 13 ELECTIVE units.

You will need to wear appropriate protective clothing and equipment when in the ɬÀï·¬Automotive Workshop.

Elective units are chosen in consultation with local, regional and national Automotive Electric Vehicle industry representatives.
This qualification may also be achieved through other pathways which do not involve a contract of training, such as recognition of prior learning. In all cases achievement or recognition of competence is necessary in all of the required units of competency to be awarded a national qualification, please consult ɬÀï·¬staff for advice.
You will be required to bring your own laptop or tablet to each class.

      Description: This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to diagnose and repair faults in the air conditioning systems, including heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) systems, fitted to a range of vehicles and machinery for passenger convenience and comfort. The systems used vary based on the work context. It involves preparing for the task, sourcing a diagnostic testing strategy, diagnosing the cause of the fault, carrying out the repair, performing post-repair testing, and completing workplace processes and documentation.The unit applies to those who work in an automotive service and repair industry. Automotive air conditioners, in addition to HVAC systems, include those in agricultural machinery, heavy commercial vehicles, light vehicles or mobile plant machinery.Licensing requirements apply to this unit. Users are advised to check with relevant regulatory authority. An Australian Refrigeration Council accredited (ARCtick) Refrigerant Handling licence is required for those carrying out this work.
